What is Civil Defence?

Civil Defence is a volunteer based organisation where its members are proud to serve a high quality back-up service supporting the primary emergency services and the local community.

Civil Defence is a statutory nationwide organisation of some 6,000 volunteers who are trained to help their community at all times, but particularly in times of emergency.

Civil Defence is an organisation for and about you, your relatives, neighbours, friends, and work colleagues. Any adult who wants to help their community can apply to become a member.

Introduction to Civil Defence

  • Civil Defence is a voluntary organisation of dedicated men & women who assist in the community under the control of the County Manager in times of crisis.
  • All members are multi-skilled to carry out their duties.
  • Members are aged from 18 to 65 years and come from different backgrounds.
  • On average train one night a week.
