Pride of Place

Pride of Place is an all-island competition, which is directed towards recognising improvements by local communities to create civic pride in their area. The competition focus is on people coming together to shape, change and enjoy all that is good about their area.

The competition is run jointly by Co-operation Ireland and the all-island Local Authority Steering Forum, which includes officials from both parts of Ireland.

Groups are nominated by the Local Authority and in Co Kerry these nominations are made following the adjudication process for the Kerry Community Awards. When a group is chosen to participate in the Pride of Place competition they are then representing Co Kerry in a specific category.  There is much work involved in participation and the community group must be willing to take this on.

In 2013 the following groups represented Kerry: Caherdaniel, Kilcummin, Tarbert, Killorglin Archive Society, Valentia Gathering Festival.

Judging took place over three days at the beginning of July and the judges indicated that they were impressed with all of the entries. The Awards Ceremony will be held in Derry on 16th of November next.
