Released: 13 April 2007

‘Road Safety’ and ‘Attitudes to Young People’ were just some of the issues raised by young people at a special meeting with the Mayor Cllr.Ted Fitzgerald, the County Manager Tom Curran and senior officials of Kerry County Council on Wednesday, April 11.

As part of an initiative to involve young people in Local Government, the Mayor invited six young delegates from Kerry’s Comhairle na nÓg (young person’s county council) to meet with the Manager and Senior Officials from Kerry County Council to discuss issues that are relevant and important to the young people of Kerry.

The Mayor in welcoming the delegates to the Council said that “‘this is a great opportunity for young people to become more aware of the political process and it also allows Kerry County Council the opportunity to meet and listen to the views of the youth of the County”

A special presentation was also made by the Mayor to the young delegates; Lisa McDonagh, Christina Murhill, Anna Ni Dhonacha, Triona Brick, Mairead Cremin and Colm MacGearailt to acknowledge their involvement in Kerry’s Comhairle na nÓg and in Ireland’s National Youth parliament,  Dáil na nÓg.

The Kerry Comhairle na nÓg project is supported by the Kerry County Development Board, Kerry County Council, the Kerry County Community and Voluntary Forum and the Kerry Diocesan Youth Project.
