Kerry Schools bid for Regional Title

Hosts Tarbert National School demonstrated their road safety awareness skills on Wednesday, 14th May, when they came third in the Junior School Warden Regional Finals, in Tarbert National School on Wednesday 14th May 2008.

Tarbert NS and CBS Primary School, Tralee were the Kerry representatives in the event, which saw 12 teams from Kerry, Limerick, Clare, Tipperary and Waterford taking part. The Junior School Warden competition is an annual event, with counties taking turns in hosting the finals.

Rathkeale Girls School came out on top in the competition, with Ballylanders National School coming second, ahead of the Tarbert school. Kerry County Council, who was responsible for organising this year’s competition point to the fact that the Junior Wardens are extremely responsible and reliable when it comes to safety on our roads.

Road Safety Education Officer for Kerry County Council, Maria O’Regan, acknowledges the work done by the Junior School Wardens during the year. “Each of these pupils is doing a superb job in ensuring that their fellow students are kept safe crossing our roads before and after school each day. We are aware of and very grateful for the excellent commitment given by each of these pupils and we hope that others can lead by their example.”

Cllr Dan Kiely was be on hand to observe the competition and presented the winning teams with their prizes.
