Official Launch of the Role of Sports Inclusion Development Officer

Released: 17 October 2008

The launch of Kerry Local Sports Partnership’s Sports Inclusion Development Officer (SIDO) Liam McDonough took place in Killarney Sports & Leisure Centre, Friday 17th October 2008.
The role was officially launched by John Breen, Kerry County Council’s Director of Community & Enterprise and Mayor of Kerry, Cllr Tom Fleming.

To tie in with the launch, Kerry Local Sports Partnership put on an exhibition of activities for those present, including Football for all, Athletics, Boccia and Curling, finishing with an integrated dance routine performed by Croi Glan Integrated Dance Company.

According to Liam McDonough the Sports Inclusion Development Officer, “the day catered for a wide range of people with a disability and gave them the opportunity to participate and try new activities that they may not have the opportunity to participate in.

“It also offered new ideas to service providers, organisations and anyone involved in providing opportunities for people with a disability to participate in sport and physical activity.”
Having worked hard on the ground to create links with local sports clubs, disability organisations and service providers, launching Liam’s new role will allow him to increase the profile of his role across the county.

“Kerry Local Sports Partnership do a terrific amount of work ensuring that people of all abilities have the opportunity to participate in sporting activities,” John Breen, Director of Community & Enterprise with Kerry County Council explained.

“We have done a lot of work in the county to ensure that people of all abilities can access facilities and information, and the work done by the Kerry Local Sports Partnership in conjunction with the disability groups, and sports centres, is an extension of this.”
