Kerry County Council honours Kerry Team

Released: 21 October 2009

At a civic reception held in Áras an Chontae on Wednesday night October 21st, Kerry County Council honoured the 2009 Kerry All-Ireland winning team and management, paying tribute to their success. Elected members, council officials, staff and their families joined members of the Kerry panel and County Board officials at the function, to pay tribute to their achievements. Mayor of Kerry, Cllr Bobby O’Connell, welcomed everybody and paid tribute to the team and management on winning their fifth All-Ireland this decade. “We see their efforts on the field of play, but we cannot see the huge amount of work that they put in off the field, whether it is in the gym, on the training field or at home.” And in praising the efforts of the players, the Mayor also thanked those behind the scenes, who were just as important. “The County Board, led by Jerome Conway, make sure that no player left wanting, while the parents, families, wives, partners and children all play a valuable part in ensuring that each player is in peak form come match day.” The Mayor pointed to the work put in by Jack O’Connor and his management team and stated that when the Kerry team faced some tough challenges that the spirit and bond that the team had developed over the years pulled them through. He also praised the efforts of the supporters in getting behind the team. “While this Civic Reception honours the Kerry team, it should also honour those who follow the team through thick and thin.” He pointed to the large numbers following the team, in particular the numbers who attended the homecoming celebrations in Rathmore, Tralee and Killarney.”
