Mayor welcomes €2.88m Roads funding under Jobs Initiative
Mayor of Kerry, Cllr Pat Leahy welcomed the additional funding for roads improvements in Kerry, which was announced today 11/05/2011, as part of the Government Jobs Initiative.
The Jobs Initiative, announced by Minister for Finance, Michael Noonan TD, allocated €60m to County Councils under the Restoration Improvement Programme. As part of this, Kerry County Council has been allocated €2.88m for additional regional & local road schemes. The roads for which funding has been received had been identified for investment by Kerry County Council as part of their Three Year Roads Investment Programme.
Mayor of Kerry, Cllr Pat Leahy welcomed the additional funding and stated that it would be a boost throughout the county. “At a time when Local Authorities are facing tightening budgets, an announcement like this is welcome, especially in light of the difficulties our roads have suffered over the past two winters,” he said.
“The monies will all be spent locally, as Kerry County Council source their materials and equipment within the county. As a result, local suppliers, quarries, and machinery & plant operators will benefit from this additional funding.”
