New temporary home for Cahirciveen Library

Released: 07 October 2011

From Friday, October 21st, Cahirciveen Library will have a new temporary home, operating out of a unit in the Gala Supermarket Complex on the Valentia Road for a three month period.

This is due to major refurbishment works that will be taking place at the existing library, leading to the closure of the building and the relocation of the library until the start of February 2012.

Funding of over €400,000 has been approved by the Department of Environment, Community & Local Government for renovation works. The work consists of renovation and replacement of the existing heating, insulation, electrical and ventilation systems, the installation of new energy efficiency measures, demolition of substandard areas and outbuildings and additional improvement works to the existing facility.

“We are delighted to get funding from the Department to carry out these works,” County Librarian Tommy O’Connor explained. During 2011 they invited applications for funding for capital works for libraries and we were lucky to be successful for Cahirciveen library. It is a wonderful facility and is well utilised by the local community, but there is a need to carry out significant works to upgrade the building.”
