Licensing Procedure

On receipt of a license application the Fire Authority will arrange an appropriate inspection of the premises.
The applicant is requested to have the following test certificates (if relevant) ready for inspection.

Emergency Lighting
Fire Detection & Alarm System
Fire Extinguishers

On the day of the inspection the following items (where relevant) will be checked by the inspecting officer
• Emergency Lighting and Emergency Lighting Signage
• Fire Detection & Alarm System
• Fire Extinguishers
• Internal Escape Routes
• Fire Doors
• Final Exit/ Escape Doors, Locking Devices & Push-Bar Devices
• Fire Safety Register & Staff Training
• Furnishing & Fittings
• High Risk/ Storage Areas
• Electrical Installations

Licensees should ensure that prior to the license inspection all of the above have been checked and that any annual test certificates (e.g. Fire Detection & Alarm System certificate, Emergency Lighting certificate, Fire Extinguishers, etc.) are available for inspection. This will minimize delays in obtaining your license. If the inspecting officer considers deficiencies exist a schedule of works will be issued to the applicant. The applicant will be required to have these works completed prior to the court hearing.

Where a licensed premises changes ownership it is common practice that the new owner carries out modifications or upgrading works to his/her new premises. Owners should be aware of their obligations under building control legislation to apply for a Fire Safety Certificate  prior to commencing any construction works. Building without a fire safety certificate will cause problems when it comes to obtaining your license
