Get thinking European elections at Killarney Library!
Irish people are amongst the most interested in the forthcoming European Parliament elections, according to the latest Eurobarometer survey.
61% say they are interested in the European elections due to be held on June 5th, as compared to an EU average of 44%.
Killarney library will host a talk to whet appetites for the forthcoming European elections on Thursday, 21st May at 7.00 p.m.
In the lead up to the European elections, Professor Neil Collins, head of the Department of Business and Law, University College Cork and a recognised expert in the study of corruption in Irish politics will speak on ‘European Union/Elections Opportunity or Threat?’. Professor Collins’s talk will cover the background to the European elections, history and future trends.
Europe Direct centres were set up by the European Commission to provide Irish people with access to information about the European Union. Killarney Library is soon to be designated a Europe Direct Centre for the South West region. It will provide information on all aspects of EU activities, how it affects citizens, how people can benefit from Europe and how citizens can have a say on issues of the day. Members of the public can drop in to pick up leaflets, brochures and books, as well as surfing EU websites and dialing the EU freephone information line.
