All trailers are registered with Motor Tax Offices and not with the Revenue Commissioners. Kerry registered Trailers begin with the letters BF.

First Registration of a New/Imported Trailer:

Step 1: Fully Complete the Forms TF100 & TF300

  • Application Form TF100 which is used for the registration and licensing of trailers/semi-trailers must fully completed and signed by the registered owner (available from your local Motor Tax Office)

  • Form TF300 – the trailer/semi-trailer weight identification certificate. This certificate should be completed and stamped by the manufacturer/assembler or his authorised agent. If this proves impracticable (the reasons why should be stated on Form TF300), t he applicant should complete the certificate and sign the declaration.

Step 2: Present Your Vehicle for Inspection

Prior to registering your Trailer/Semi-Trailer for the first time, it will be necessary to have it inspected by an Officer of Kerry Motor Taxation Office in order to confirm that the trailer/semi-trailer satisfies details as outlined on TF300.

Present your Trailer/Semi-Trailer together with Forms TF100 and TF300 to Kerry Motor Tax Office for inspection. Our Inspection Area is located at the rear of the building – via Machinery Yard Entrance 

Step 3: Return Documentation to us

  • Submit fully completed and signed TF100 and TF300 forms to us at the address below

  • Correct  registration fee - €60 payable to Kerry County Council – do not send cash by post

The Trailer/Semi-Trailer will be registered by Kerry Motor Tax Office and a Trailer/Semi-Trailer Licence (Trailer Card) will be issued.

Renewing a Trailer Licence:

Step 1: Certificate of Roadworthiness

A Certificate of Roadworthiness is required for Trailers/Semi Trailers which have been licensed in this country for 1 year or more. 

If your Trailer/Semi-Trailer vehicle does not have a current Certificate of Roadworthiness you must submit a DOE (Department of the Environment) Pass Statement issued by an authorised tester with the appropriate fee (€13.00 for Heavy Goods Vehicles), to obtain a CRW.

Step 2: Return Documentation to us

  • Submit Trailer Card with Current Certificate of Roadworthiness or DOE Pass Statement from authorised tester to us at the address below

  • Correct  CRW fee - €13 (applicable if submitting Pass Statement) payable to Kerry County Council – do not send cash by post

Please note: the fee for trailer licence renewal has been abolished for periods on or after 1st April 2001 under the Road Traffic (Licensing of Trailers and Semi-Trailers (Amendment) Regulations, 2001. A legal requirement to renew the trailer licence together with the submission of a valid certificate of roadworthiness for the trailer/semi-trailer still applies.
