Changes of Ownership
Vehicles registered before 1st January 1993 are dealt with by local Motor Taxation Offices.
Items to be submitted:
- RF.200 Form (available from Motor Taxation Offices) to be fully completed and signed by both parties
- Registration Book
Vehicles registered since 1st January 1993 are dealt with by Vehicle Registration Unit, Shannon, Co. Clare.
Item to be submitted:
- Vehicle Licensing Certificate/Vehicle Registration Certificate (RF101) fully completed by both parties and include date of sale fully completed. Part B to be fully completed by both parties and include date of sale. - where immediate taxation of vehicle is required, please submit Licensing Certificate/Registration Certificate to Motor Taxation Office with tax renewal application.
In the case of trade-in or sale to a garage:
- Form RF105 to be completed and submitted to Motor Tax Offices and the Vehicle Licensing Certificate/Vehicle Registration Certificate should be given to Garage. Note:Until the Motor Taxation Office or Vehicle Registration Unit at Shannon has been notified of a change of ownership, you continue to be the legal registered owner and as such you are legally liable for any fines or penalties incurred in respect of the vehicle by the new owner.
In the case of imported and newly registered vehicles which have never been taxed in Ireland before:
• RF.200 Form (available from Motor Taxation Offices) to be fully completed and signed by both parties
• Form RF100 issued by the Revenue Commissioners.
Note:
Until the Motor Taxation Office or Vehicle Registration Unit at Shannon has been notified of a change of ownership, you continue to be the legal registered owner and as such you are legally liable for any fines or penalties incurred in respect of the vehicle by the new owner.
