Non–Principal Private Residence Charges (NPPR)

nppr logoThe Local Government (Charges) Act 2009 introduces a €200 annual charge on non principal private residences, payable by the owner(s) of the NPPR to the Local Authority in whose area the property concerned is located. The Liability Date is the 31st July 2009 and late payment penalties of € 20.00 will apply, each month or part of a month,  after the 31st October during which the charge remains unpaid.
It is recommended that owners use the on-line payment option at www.nppr.ie to register and pay.

Scheme Details.
The charge is payable mainly by the owners of rental property and holiday homes. It is also payable in respect of vacant privately owned residential property which is habitable. The owners of residential property are required to determine and declare their liability to the NPPR charge. No invoices or notices requiring payment will be issued by the local authorities.
In some circumstances, property owners may not have a liability to pay the NPPR charge.  The  main exemptions are where properties are vacated due to long term illness or properties that are rented to Local Authorities under the Rental Acommodation Scheme (RAS).   Granny Flats/residential properties occupied by relatives, rent free as their main residences are also exempt if located within 2km of the owners main residence.

Payment Options.
1. Pay online at www.nppr.ie
2. In person,  at Kerry County Council offices in the Revenue Dept., Ashe Memorial Hall, Denny Street, Tralee or in County Buildings, Rathass, Tralee. If you are opting to pay in person,  please download the NPPR Registration Form  from the Kerry Council website at www.kerrycoco.ie and bring the completed form with you to the Council offices.
3. Payment by Post – If you are opting to pay by post,  please download the NPPR Registration Form  from the Kerry County Council website at www.kerrycoco.ie and post the fully completed Application Form and payment to the Revenue Dept., Ashe Memorial Hall, Denny Street, Tralee, Co. Kerry  or contact the Revenue Department at 066/7162100 and we will forward an Application Form to you for completion.

Important Note:
  - Cash cannot be accepted.
  - Payments can be made by Laser Card, Visa Card or Master Card
  - Payment can also be made by Cheque, Bank Draft or Postal Order and should be  made payable to LGCSB NPPR 
  - Cheques/Bank Drafts/Postal Orders made payable to Kerry County Council cannot be accepted.
