Introduction

It is proposed to adopt and 8th variation to the Kerry County Development Plan 2009-2015. The reason for this variation is facilitate and manage the development of renewable energy development in a manner which is accordance with the proper planning and sustainable development of the county. It is intended that this strategy will provide a plan led framework which will address recent changes in national policy, provide comprehensive and flexible policy responses to the challenges being presented by advances in renewable energy technologies and to secure the most sustainable forms of development.

In compliance with the Strategic Environmental Assessment Directive (2001/42/EC) and the Planning and Development (Strategic Environmental Assessment) Regulations (as amended) 2004, Kerry County Council has carried out a Strategic Environmental Assessment of the proposed variation and, under Article 6 of the Habitats Directive 92/43/EEC an Appropriate Assessment of the variation has also been undertaken.

Copies of the Proposed Variation – Draft Renewable Energy Strategy, Strategic Environmental Assessment Environmental Report and Habitats Directive Assessment Report may be inspected/purchased during normal office hours, from Thursday 31st May 2012 to Thursday 28th June 2012 - both dates inclusive, at the following locations:

Kerry County Council’s Planning Department, Room 13, Kerry County Council, County Buildings, Rathass, Tralee.

Observations and Submissions in respect of the Proposed Variation – Renewable Energy Strategy, Strategic Environmental Assessment Environmental Report and Habitats Directive Assessment Report should be made in writing and addressed to;

Noelle O’Connor, Planning Policy Unit, Planning Department, Kerry County Council, Áras an Chontae, Tralee and marked ‘Submission / Observation on – Proposed Variation No. 8 of the Kerry County Development Plan 2009-2015’

Observations and submissions must be submitted before 5.00 p.m. Thursday 28th June 2012, and will be taken into consideration before the making of the Variation of the Development Plan.
