On 10th November 2003, Kerry County Council made its new County Development Plan. It is a six-year plan that will be in force from 9th December 2003.
The review of the Kerry County Development Plan commenced in December 2001 with an initial phase of public consultation based on an issues document prepared to promote discussion. Public information sessions were held throughout the County and a total 230 submissions were received from the public. The Draft plan was this published in January 2003 and a further 220 submissions were received. The final public consultation phase commenced in October 2003.
The development plan process evoked large scale public debate in relation to proposed policies particularly in relation to rural development for permanent residences and holiday homes. The debate took a prominent position in the local media and numerous meetings were held by the Council and other interested parties throughout the review process. The process has had the positive impact of bringing the whole planning debate to a wider audience, which can only have a beneficial effect on the decision making associated with the plan.
The plan documents
While the new County Development Plan is being printed and prepared for distribution, display and sale, the Council have made copies of the plan available for public inspection at relevant Council offices on a temporary basis.
The final version of the plan will be available in the new year in hard-copy and CD-ROM format for purchase. The hard-copy will be quite expensive reflecting the costs of production. The CD-Rom format will be available for around €10.
