Féilte le Gaeilge
Celebrating our national language through the arts is the primary objective of Féilte le Gaeilge. Art Festivals that show case events through Irish, take full advantage of one of our most lucrative resources to give Kerry a keen advantage in tourism, not to mention the opportunities to celebrate the arts though Irish.
Féilte le Gaeilge is a bursary co-funded by Kerry County Council and Foras na Gaeilge, which was worth €20,000 Kerry Festivals in 2008 and again in 2009. This clearly shows the commitment of these organisations to promote our national language across Kerry. This scheme began some years ago and since then many local groups and festival organisers have received support and funding to help with the running of art events through Irish in the Kerry.
As long as events are based on the Arts and are run through Irish there are few restrictions on the types of events that can be organised. Such events give the Irish speaking community, as well as those actively learning Irish, the opportunity to socialise through Irish. The bursary is open to all group and organisations from both Gaeltacht and non-Gaeltacht areas in the county as long as the events comply with the aims of the scheme.
Priority will be given to applications that are based on the use of, or enrichment of, Irish in events such as… narration, singing, drama, story telling, dialogue in verse, debating, story reading, poetry, lectures, puppet shows, films, literature, traditional Gaeltacht arts etc.
The scheme is usually advertised in January at the beginning of each year, and is administered by Oifig na Gaeilge, Kerry County Council. Additional information, and application forms, are available from our website at www.kerrycoco.ie
