Tourism Projects & Initiatives

The Tourism Development and Built Infrastructure Unit of Kerry County Council is responsible for the management and operation of the following visitor facilities in the county.

With a 20 metre high viewing and observation tower, visitor facilities including a wildlife exhibition, guided nature boat tours, watersport activites on the activity lake and a lakeside restauruant, a visit to Tralee Bay Wetlands is a must when visiting Tralee.  A climbing wall and toddler play area are also being developed.

The small village of Blennerville, just west of Tralee, is home to Europe’s tallest tower mill, built in the 1800’s.  Today, the windmill is the centrepiece of a visitor complex which includes a visitor centre, shop and a model railway exhibition.

A visit to Fenit gives visitors an opportunity to have a very different maritime experience.  Along with a beautiful safe beach, a playground and local restaurants, cafes and bars, visitors can take a short 20 minute boat trip through breathtaking scenery to Samphire Island and explore the fascinating history of Fenit Lighthouse.

Located in the Ashe Memorial Hall, in the centre of Tralee, at the Kerry County Museum visitors get to experience the culture and heritage of Kerry.  The museum comprises the Medieval Experience, which takes visitors through the sights, sounds and smells of the recreated town; the permanent gallery, which displays the archaeology and history of the county, and a large temporary exhibition space, which hosts major exhibitions.  Kerry County Museum was awarded the title of ‘Museum of the Year in 2009’ by the Heritage Council of Ireland and the Northern Ireland Museums Council.
