Information on : AGE & OPPORTUNITY OFFERS VOLTAGE BURSARY TO OLDER GROUPS MAKING A DIFFERENCE

As part of their 25th anniversary celebrations, Age & Opportunity is offering a bursary to a group of older people who want to make a difference in their community. The VoltAge Bursary offers €5,000 along with support to an older group with plans for an interesting or exciting project that will have real benefit.

Older people in Ireland invest a lot of time and energy in their local communities, through environmental projects, charity work, drama clubs, choirs, doing a lot with almost no money. The VoltAge Bursary is a way for Age & Opportunity to celebrate that work and to see what one group could achieve with an investment of €5,000 and a little support along the way.

The winning project must be from one of three areas of community involvement:

  • · Education
  • · The Arts
  • · The Environment

The bursary will support community-based activities that promote people as active citizens. It is looking for projects that demonstrate older people’s capacity and potential for taking on roles within their localities. The winning project will be innovative, replicable and an effective local community intervention.

The organisation is particularly interested in intergenerational projects where the primary applicant is an older people’s community organisation/active retired group working with or enabling, for example a youth club, student group, a group of young jobseekers, clearly demonstrating how the younger group has been involved with the project planning where appropriate.

The closing date for applications for the VoltAge Bursary is now 21st February 2014 and applicants must be prepared to evaluate and learn from their work and share their ideas with others.

Projects for each bursary must be completed by the end of December  2014 and a full list of terms and conditions that apply are available on www.ageandopportunity.ie
