The Environmental Awareness Office facilitates the running of a variety of both local and national campaigns throughout the year.

Blue Flag Beach Awareness
Through our Blue Flag Environmental education programme, we actively promote and encourage the following:
- Participation in Clean Coasts’ #2MinuteBeachClean
- Think Before You Flush
- Protecting our oceans from litter
- Cleaning up after your dog
- Compliance with beach rules and bye-laws
Greening of Festivals
County Kerry has amazing festivals and events. While they provide social, financial and cultural benefits they can also have significant environmental impacts.
Prior to organising an event or festival, consider areas including waste, energy and water that your festival will produce, and how you might manage these effectively.

Biodiversity Week
Ireland’s nature and wildlife is celebrated across the country for National Biodiversity Week.
As well as highlighting the importance of biodiversity, National Biodiversity Week is also about experiencing the fun, enjoyment and spectacle of the nature that surrounds us.

Heritage Week
National Heritage Week celebrates Ireland’s cultural, built and natural heritage. It brings together volunteers, community groups and heritage enthusiasts to share their experience, knowledge culture and practices.
Tidy Towns Competition
Tidy Towns is a nationwide competition run by the Department of Rural and Community Development in which villages, towns and cities compete for the coveted title of Ireland’s tidiest town. The competition also has a range of special awards such as the Climate Action Award and the Sustainable Development Goals Award. County Clean-Up
County Clean-Up Day, run by KWD Recycling with the support of Kerry County Council, is an annual initiative in which community groups gather for one Saturday every April in a county-wide cleaning campaign.

National Spring Clean
The An Taisce run National Spring Clean campaign takes place throughout the month of April and sees people from all over Ireland participating in local clean ups. The National Spring Clean aims to promote personal responsibility for litter and heighten awareness of litter and waste issues.
