MONUMENT SCULPTORS AND STONEMASONS

Regulations in relation to Sculptors or Stonemasons are contained in Kerry County Council Cemeteries Bye Laws 2018. A copy of the Bye Laws is available on this site or can be requested from the Burial Grounds Office, Environment Department, Maine St, Tralee, Co. Any monument Sculptor or Stonemason wishing to carry out work in any Council Cemetery/Burial Ground in the functional area of Kerry County Council, must be registered with the Council. This can be done by contacting the office above and completing the relevant paperwork.

Once a Sculptor or Stonemason is registered with the Local Authority, they should apply to the Burial Grounds Office for a Certificate of Permission before carrying out any works in a Kerry County Council Cemetery. Application for a Certificate of Permission to erect a headstone or monument can be downloaded from this site.

A Monument Sculptor shall not erect a monument without a Certificate of Permission having been issued by the Council in accordance with the provisions of the Byelaws.

All works carried out within Burial Grounds must be carried out in accordance with current Health and Safety Legislation.
