Increase in Baseline Income Thresholds for Social Housing Support applicants

The Social Housing Assessment (Amendment) (No.3) Regulations 2022 have resulted in the baseline income thresholds for social housing support applicants being increased for all local authorities with effect from 1st January 2023.

The new income eligibility threshold for a single person applying to Kerry County Council has now increased from €30,000 to €35,000. The increased allowances of 5% (€1,750) for each adult household member (subject to a maximum of 10%) and 2.5% (€875) for each dependent child (no maximum) are not changing.

The revised thresholds for different household compositions are set out in the table below:

  • Households previously assessed and decided upon prior to the 1st January 2023 which were deemed not qualified due to exceeding the income thresholds in place at that time but which may meet the new income thresholds may reapply for assessment under the new income thresholds.
  • A household having been assessed and approved for social housing supports whose application was reviewed between 18th November, 2021 and 31st December, 2022 and which:-
  • was removed from the social housing waiting list due to exceeding the thresholds in place at that time, and
  • subsequently reapplies and is assessed as being eligible under the revised threshold, will keep the time they accrued and would subsequently have accrued had they remained on the housing list. 
  • These arrangements will remain in place until Friday 30th June 2023.

A fully completed application form along with all supporting documentation including up to date income details can be re-submitted to the Housing Department, Kerry County Council, Rathass, Tralee, County Kerry.
