Kerry County Council has introduced a new road safety initiative for Primary Schools in County Kerry called the ‘Junior Road Safety Officer’ (JRSO) programme. A JRSO is a 6^th Class student who ‘applies’ for the position and is nominated by the class teacher to represent their school to promote road safety and liaise with the council’s Road Safety Office through its online resources. An English and an Irish version of the JRSO Information Booklet is available for schools to download.

Closing date for JRSO nominations is Thursday 23^rd October 2025.

Once all nominations are received, Kerry County Council and the Community Policing Unit of Kerry Gardaí will present the JRSO’s with their certificates at a later date.
