Kerry Pupils Illustrate Road Safety

Primary School pupils from around the County demonstrated their artistic skills to highlight road safety in the 2018 Kerry County Council Road Safety Calendar competition.
On Wednesday morning 13th December, 2017, David Doyle, Senior Engineer,  Operations, Capital Infrastructure & Safety Department, Kerry County Council presented the twelve winning pupils from various primary schools around the County with a copy of the 2018 Road Safety Calendar, featuring their artwork.  The Cathaoirleach of Kerry, Cllr. John Sheahan presented individual prizes to the winning pupils and Eileen Cunningham, Regional Road Safety Education Officer with the Road Safety Authority for the Kerry & Limerick Area presented Road Safety packs to the winners.
Pupils were invited to enter a picture containing a road safety message.

Cathaoirleach of Kerry, Cllr. John Sheahan congratulated each of the pupils on their wonderful drawings and said that “the standard of the competition is extremely high and it is great to know that these pupils, through their drawings, are contributing to raising awareness of road safety throughout the County”.

Eileen Cunningham, Regional Road Safety Education Officer praised the pupils on the high standard of their drawings and said that “the competition reinforces the message of Road Safety, encourages school children to use their imagination and illustrate road safety issues that are important to them”.

Co-ordinator of the event, Michelle Mullane, Staff Officer, Operations, Capital Infrastructure & Safety Department, was delighted with all the entries.  “We had over 400 entries from schools around Kerry.  It is fantastic that the teachers/pupils got so strongly involved and it is my hope that each pupil who took part will have an increased awareness of road safety as a result”.
