Kerry County Council crews are today assessing the impact of the flash flooding in Killarney last evening.

 

Kerry County Council staff, the Kerry Fire Service and the Kerry Civil Defence mobilised to respond to the impact of the torrential rain from 7pm approximately.

 

An estimated 57mm of rain fell in a four-hour period, with some 30mm in one hour alone, and this caused very significant flooding on roads throughout the town.

 

Many roads including Park Road, Woodlawn Road and Countess Road were impassable for a time. The N22 road at Pike Hill was closed for a period because of flooding, and Kerry Fire Service deployed pumps to clear the road of surface water.

 

This morning, Kerry County Council continues to liaise with properties impacted by the flooding and will provide any assistance required.

 

Killarney Sports and Leisure Centre is closed today, Friday, because of flood damage. Update: the Killarney Sports and Leisure Centre will remain closed over the weekend and until further notice because of flood damage and the need for a thorough assessment in that regard.
