Members of the public are being invited to have their say on the future of Tralee Town Park. Kerry County Council is currently developing a strategic plan for the park and is inviting submissions and opinions from park users and the wider public.

Tralee Town Park, affectionately known as ‘The Green’, is located in the heart of Tralee town and is one of the largest urban public parks in Ireland. It covers an area of 35 acres and comprises manicured gardens, walkways, a wide array of tree species, a community garden, the Rose Garden, a large playground and much more.

Tralee Municipal District of Kerry County Council is asking people to complete an online survey which can be found on the homepage of Kerry County Council’s website www.kerrycoco.ie. Copies of the survey are also available at County Buildings in Rathass, Tralee Library and the Tralee Municipal District offices at Princes Quay. Local secondary schools have also come on board and will be out and about over the coming weeks in Tralee Town Centre encouraging and assisting the general public to complete the surveys.

Mayor of Tralee, Cllr Jim Finucane said that the Town Park was a gem at the heart of Tralee and that its future development must have the input of the general public at its heart.

‘This wonderful amenity belongs to the people of Tralee and the wider county so we want to hear what they have to say – what should be done to improve facilities, how can the park be improved, what more needs to be done to promote the park. I also want to thank the local Secondary Schools for coming forward to work with the Council to encourage everyone to complete the survey’.

Municipal District Officer, Jean Foley, said: ‘The strategy being developed will examine the resources, facilities, activities and potential uses of The Green to determine how the current provisions can be improved for all to enjoy.

‘The community’s views are fundamental in the formation of this strategy. As a first step in the consultation process, Kerry County Council has developed this questionnaire to assist in ascertaining your views and vision. We are encouraging everyone to have their say.’

The closing date for receipt of completed surveys is Friday 21 February 2020. The initiative is supported by Tralee Chamber Alliance, IT Tralee, North East and West Kerry Development and local secondary schools.
