Water Safety Information and Advice

Beach Flags

  • F – Find the red and yellow flags and swim between them
  • L – Look at the safety signs
  • A – Ask a Lifeguard for advice
  • G – Get a friend to swim with you
  • S – Stick your hand in the air and shout for help if you get into difficulty

Rip Currents

People can swept be out to sea extremely quickly in a rip current and will quickly find themselves out of their depth. At the beach, swim between the red and yellow flags – this means it’s safe to swim. If you find yourself caught in a rip current, remain calm and swim parallel to the beach to get you out of the rip current. If you can’t do this, raise your arm and a lifeguard will be there to assist you.
