Eligibility to be a candidate in local elections

Every Irish citizen and every person ordinarily resident in the State, who has reached the age of 18, on Election Day, is eligible to become a candidate for election to Kerry County Council.

This document, prepared by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage identifies disqualifications that may impact on eligibility.

How Members of Local Authorities are Elected

You can nominate yourself to be a candidate or you can be nominated by someone else, once the person nominating you is registered to vote in the Local Electoral Area where the candidate proposes to stand for election.

Nomination papers will be available in the coming weeks and details of this will be available here and published in statutory notices in the local press.
